Meet RoyStar SoundSick: Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with RoyStar SoundSick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RoyStar, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
When we make up our mind to conquer an endeavor, focus is the number one habit to success. Focusing on the positive while completely ignoring the negative is a habit that has taken me tremendous levels.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a recording artist, persistence has been the blueprint for my upward trajectory. When reflecting on my journey, how I’ve come to where I am today, I can say that faith and persistence have been paramount catalysts in overcoming tribulation. The faith to see past any obstacle, to come to the understanding that all hurdles are temporary in nature. One must persist until they’ve reached their goal. For anyone following my journey, I would want them to know that there are no limits. Evolution is infinite for those who believe and are willing to put in the effort.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s a gamut of amazing places in LA. I would definitely start in Malibu for some lit beach vibes. Definitely would have to do a brunch near rodeo, strictly for the aesthetic. Catch a few vibes in Santa Monica, then hit Sunset for some Bossa Nova.Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to the Allatra International Public Movement. For those who aren’t familiar, the Allatra IPM is a one of a kind international organization with coordination centers located on every continent of the planet.

This is a movement of millions of beautiful personalities from different cultures, religious beliefs and ethnic backgrounds who have chosen to unite on the one fundamental principal that we all share; humanity.

The love and support found in Allatra is second to none, with many participants working tirelessly to implement programs and projects that have a tremendous positive impact on billions of people around the world.

Allatra IPM is a true template for selflessness, love and care for humanity that will definitely be the impetus to our collective evolution in the upcoming millennia. They most definitely deserve a shoutout.

Today we’d like to introduce you to RoyStar SoundSick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us RoyStar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.

My story begins in 2011 Los Angeles after inking a record deal with Universal Music Group (via Canorous Records). We started coordinating and hosting events at little hotspots around Hollywood, all venues which have since changed their names. From that point there, it was a lot of networking, creating opportunities and making the most of them.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Of course, the road has definitely been full of obstacles. A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor, and the industry is a tidal wave. You sign deals, invest time, money and energy into projects with the hope of a successful outcome, but there are no guarantees. To date, that has been the largest learning curve to navigate; intricately understanding the processes of both the business and artistic aspects of the entertainment industry. If you take a win, learn to keep that momentum and level up. If you take a loss, learn to hedge your bets and bounce back.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?

The business is music and events; the company is SSEMG. We specialize in music production, live event coordination and nightlife promotion. Musically, we’re proud of the fact that all of our flagship artists have signed major label deals. In the events space, we’re proud of the fact that we have been an instrumental element for some the hottest events in Los Angeles in a five years time span. I would even go as far to say that we changed the landscape of how urban events in Hollywood were promoted and marketed. We’ve been set apart by our unique marketing approach to the industry, finding niches in our target markets and successfully capitalizing.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?

Proudest moment would have to be my first time working with Method Man on BET’s Season 1 of Rebel. I grew up a huge Wu Tang fan so working with fam was a very cool moment.

RoyStar SoundSick Serves up a Bombastic, Suave Music Video for Latest Release "South-Side"

The latest single from RoyStar SoundSick, the LA-based rhymester, draws a long definitive line the sand marking the separation between his own braggadocious City Repping versifications and current new-wave hip hop. "South-Side," which comes with its own video feature, finds distinguishment and effectiveness from the others mentions above through the bombastic stanchions it anchors over the comprising focal points within the smooth-swaggering single. Here, RoyStar SoundSick pulls up with his drop-top Jeep, enamoring all he passe along the way, connecting bipartite Toplines in the Chorus, and a Yacht-full of boasting over the Verse.

As you dive into the epitome of monochromatic shots around The City of Angel's "South-Side," RoyStar appears. Decked-out in a blacked-out and tailored-made trenchcoat, dripping with probably the most expensive-looking shades you can find at a Burberry near you, and buzzing with confidence over every line. With "keep a couple of bands in the safe, had to ice the wrist, so I went and put a Rolley on it," festooning the opening moments of "South-Side," it's not hard picturing the R&B-reminiscent pads booming out of brand-new speakers in your top-down Cadillac, with a handful of your Hip-hop-loving clique crammed in the back seat, bobbing along to the adhesive vibes dissolving from the rumbling sub-woofers below.

When the hook finds it's way to the head, the resulting sensation simply can't be remade. The low rumbling lines from the introduction interweave together with a new sequencing flow from Royster himself, buzzing with kaleidoscopic texture as the Cali Rapper makes the association to his home-city: "came up on the south side, no it ain't safe you outside." By the time you get past the second resoundings of the mantra-like hook, the concept of buying into the buoyant swagger that RoyStar SoundSick is presenting with every stylish video shot and every curtailing Hip-hop Verse doesn't seem that far-fetching. It's that exact notion behind why this L.A. notoriety has already established himself as a household staple in the music industry.
